Hartz is a terrible terrible product that you should never ever use on any animal.http://www.hartzvictims.org/
Please consult your vet for advice. I’m sure the fleas are everywhere in your house. You really need to spray the house. Even if you do clear the fleas off of the dogs and cats, there will still be fleas in the house that will just jump right back on your animals.
I would get the animals bathed they will usually give them something to kill all the fleas. You will probably have to bomb the house, there is usually no way around it once they get in. I would also put boric acid in the carpit. Its a powder you can buy at any drug store and it kills the flea eggs—that way once you kill all the live ones with a bomb and a bath the eggs wont hatch and start the problem all over again.
HARTZ IS DEADLY!
DONT USE IT.
DONT USE ANYTHING MADE BY HARTZ.
go to the vet and ask for Flea Treatments.
Fleas come back. So get your cat treated every now and then

scroll down on this page to see some of the MANY beloved animals who died due to Hartz
All photo’s with dates are of animals who have departed for the the Rainbow Bridge(The Heaven for animals). Their human companions firmly believe Hartz flea products are directly responsible for the loss of these much loved companions Photo’s without dates are animals injured by Hartz which required Vet care.

go to a vet and get a product called Capstar…it’s a small pill that costs about $3 that you feed to your pet in a treat…it kills all fleas on the pet within 30 minutes…then you have to use something like Advantage or Frontline to control them …and spray your yard tto or you’ll have wasted your money on everything else
My nana got a pill for her puppy. Is 1$8 a pill but it works. You have to get it from the vet. Just mix it with the food or roll it in lunch meat. but in less then an hour they will start dying and jumping off so they may have to be outside. They have to be atleast 5 pounds.
Advantage will stop fleas from biting within the first five minutes.
It kills close to 100% of the fleas on your pet within the first twelve hours.
I back this product up entirely. I used it on my pets when we got a flea infestation from a friends cat. It worked perfectly.http://advantage.petparents.com//aboutAd…
get them flea collars, buy some flea shampoo(it might be hard to wash the cat) and if they don’t work, bring them to a vet.
First – you posted your question in the Cats secdtion, not the Dogs section. You might want to post it over in the Dogs secdtion and see if you get any additional replies.
You probably have no choice but to spray the house.
Also, Frontline, Revolution, and Advantage are better products than Hartz. There is currently an FDA study of over the counter flea products for cats and dogs. They have been receiving a lot of reports of illnesses and death amongst cats and dogs treated with over the counter products like Hartz.
Bathing the cats will not do the job and sweeping the house each week will also not do the job.
Here is how I tell people to get rid of fleas – we’ve used this method in bad flea years and it works – substitute “dog” where it shows “cat” and “puppy” where it says “kittens”
First get Frontline, Advantage, or Revolution from the vet to treat the cats. These products are intended to be used once a month to keep fleas off the cat.
Check with the vet to be sure that all of the kittens and cats are old enough to have the Frontline, Advantage, or Revoluiton applied to them.
Then, if you need to treat the house – which is needed in your case – use a product which not only kills adult fleas but also prevents eggs from hatching.
When we have bad flea years (haven’t had one in along time – knock on wood 🙂 we use Raid products for the house.
They make a fogger called Raid ® : Flea Killer Plus Foggerhttp://www.killsbugsdead.com/fop_fkpf.as…
They also make an area spray called Raid ® : Flea Killer Plus Carpet & Room Sprayhttp://www.killsbugsdead.com/fop_fk_pc_r…
We have had very good results with those products.
Remember, you want a product that not only kills adult fleas but also prevents eggs from hatching. If you use something that does not prevent the eggs from hatching, when they hatch you are back where you started.
There is a product, Capstar which is a pill you give the cat. It kills all of the fleas on the cat within about 5 hours.http://www.capstar.novartis.us/
It does not provide long lasting protection – it merely kills all the fleas on the cat.
You can use it to kill all the fleas on the cat and then treat the cat with Frontline, Advantage, or Revolution, and then treat the cat.
Ask your vet about Capstar and using it in combination with other products.
Capstar is available only by prescription.
We have used it to kill all the fleas on feral cats who we could not handle to apply something else. We transfer them to another cage or carrier, move them out of the room, fog the room, give them the Capstar in food, and then put them back in the main cage.
Capstar is like magic – it really will kill all of the fleas on a cat very quickly and it is safe enough that you could use it every day, if need be – though that would be an expensive way to control fleas, day to day.

I do not know if Capstar can be used in a dog or puppy. Check with your vet about that.
