If all the animals are wearing protection against fleas and ticks and there’s no people in the house for a week, how long can a flea survive without any blood to feast on?

The adult flea does not last more than a few days without liquid. What does last much longer – several weeks in my experience, are the pupae which can lay semi-dormant in a carpet or bedding until stimulated to hatch by movement or warmth from a living animal. They hatch very rapidly and can give the impression of live adult fleas being present beforehand.
