The fleas had been away for months but I saw one on my dog today. M dog is breast feeding and the puppy is (3 days old) I don’t want the product to harm it, yet I want something fast and effective. What is a product that YOU recommend?

Frontline Plus: “Approved for use on pregnant or nursing mothers”
You can not put any flea medications on a nursing dam. You can give her a bath using Ivory soap, leaving the soap on her for a minimum of ten minutes before rinsing. That will kill any fleas on her. You can’t wash the puppy at this age and if there were fleas on the dam, there are fleas on the pup.
Wash the whelping box bedding in hot water daily and vacuum the house daily, emptying the bag after each use, to help keep fleas down without using toxins.
Capstar is fast (30 minutes or less) and effective for killing live fleas, but call your vet and ask if it’s safe for lactating mothers. Otherwise, I would recommend Advantage (which, again, ask your vet if it’s safe for her while she’s lactating).
You should talk to a vet. And don’t let the mother go outside exploring. She needs to be on a leash or in a fence when outside. But being the puppies are 3 days old, just have her on a leash.
Most flea products are not labeled for use on nursing mothers. Call your vet and see if there is something they would recommend. Otherwise you can bathe the dog using some Dawn dish soap.
Raw apple cider vinegar in her water can help with fleas. Google it.
