Strange question I know, but a neighbor has 5 week old kittens she’s giving away and after visiting them a few times I’ve noticed fleas on all of them. Is that normal with such young kittens and can you ever get rid of them completely?

A 5 week old kitten that has fleas could be anemic. Look at its gums to determine….a healthy kitten will have pink gums…a kitten that is anemic will have whitish color to their gums. Getting a sick kitten right off the bat could ring up some bucks at the vet. Some flea infestations on pets and in the house can be very hard to get rid of. Also, some people are allergic to fleas, and can have severe itching and dermatitis from the bites. Any kitten you consider should be healthy…no discharge from the eyes or nose, fairly active and alert and energetic, its coat should be shiny and free of fleas, and it should be dewormed, as it is common for kittens to get worms or to be born with them.

take the kitten and provide a good home – then go out and buy him/her a flea collar and a deworming program – its no big deal

If the mama cat has fleas, the kittens will have fleas. I f the cats are deflead and their area kept free of fleas, the chances are good that the fleas will stay gone. Check with a Vet about how soon Kittens can be deflead, as flea stuff is toxic.

if u get it from a pet store they normally keep the kittens up to date with flea free spray then they ask u to take em to the vet to get checked up other then that u shouldnt worry ,, make sure u get a flea collar

NO YOU DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABUT FLEAS YOU CAN BATH THEM TO GET RID OF THEM WORMS ALL YOU WOULD NEED TO DO IS TAKE THEM TOO THE VET TO GET A CHECK UP AND IF IT DID HAVE WORMS THEY WOULD TREAT IT AND IF NOT GET IT STARTED ON A ONCE A MONTH WORM PREVENTION PILL. AND WHEN ITS OLD ENOUGH YOU CAN BUY FLEA MEDICATION.

If you get your kitten, and I hope you do, take him or her to the Vet. The Vet will give you’re new family member all the shots she needs and a dewormer, as well as deal with any fleas or ear mites she may have. It’s quite easy these days with a product called Revolution. There will be no fleas! Flea collars are a useless waste of money, ask your Vet.
The kits probably got the fleas from the Queen, or the family dog.(If they have one) Anyway, it’s not uncommon. Five weeks is a lttle young to be taken away from mom, so I would wait at least two more weeks. Good luck!

Yes, there are flea shampoos available at pet stores. Flea collars can be found online or at a vet.
Keep the kitten outside until you solve the flea problem or they may nest in your house.

it depends on where they were born. you can get advantage to help controll the fleas. if they also have worms you should take it to the vet if you decide to get one. fleas are what cause kittens and cats to get tapeworm…i found that out the hard way

yes, you can get rid of them completely. you just need to give them a flea bath and a flea collar. sometimes powder, ointment..
all of this stuff is easy to find at target or walmart or any store like that.

You need to have her treated for fleas and worms before you bring her home. If you have a regular vet perhaps they can keep her for one day, overnight, after treating her. We provided that service to our clients when I worked for a vet. She will be just fine. She has fleas because the person who is giving the kittens away has not taken care of the problem. You can get rid of them completely, but you need to do this before you bring her into your house.
    Enjoy your new “baby”

All puppies and kittens have to be dewormed. As for the fleas, yeah, you can get rid of them all the way, but do it before you bring it into your house, because once they get in your carpets, you will have to have your house “bombed” with flea medicine to get rid of them.
